Mr. Willis Bellamy, Sr. (Sookie) was born in Columbus, Ohio on June 17, 1928, to the late Lucille Staples Bellamy the late John H. Bellamy.  

He accepted Christ at an early age joining South Calvary Baptist Church. He later attended Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church and went on to become a faithful member until his health failed him. 

Willis (Sookie) received his primary and secondary education in the public school system. He then entered the United States Navy. Willis (Sookie) was a sociable person. He loved to play cards, play the numbers, and play the tickets and he knew everybody’s address. Willis (Sookie) was his nickname and everybody knew (Sookie.)

After leaving the Navy he went on to be employed by Goldberg’s Trucking Co., and the City of Indianapolis Department of Public Works. He also was employed by the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1986 after 30 years of service.

Willis (Sookie) was united in marriage to the late Mary Jane Lackey Bellamy for 58 years.  She was the love of his life. This union was blessed with eleven (11) children. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend to so many.

Willis (Sookie) went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 6, 2022, at the age of 93 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Lackey Bellamy, parents John and Lucille Bellamy. Brothers, James Bellamy and Thomas Bellamy. Sons, Stephen P. Bellamy and Willis Bellamy, Jr.  He leaves to cherish his memory, sons Kenneth R. Bellamy, Sr. (Jacqueline) Richard A. Bellamy (Veronica) Michael V. Bellamy (Ronnie) Jeffrey W. Bellamy, Jerald D. Bellamy, Phillip B. Bellamy (Sonya). Daughters Marilyn Hill, Suzanne Price (Robert) Carol D. Bellamy, Paula D. Bellamy. 30 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and 32 great-great grandchildren. Sister-in-law, Lillie Mae Bellamy.
