VaNette Ash Obituary

Born on the full moon February 28, 1960, almost a leap year baby, Fancy (VaNette Francine)
graduated from Emmerich Manual High school (Class of 1978) and Indiana Wesleyan
University. She was raised in the church where she lay here now. She was a respected and
valued employee at Eli Lilly & Co for over 30 years and retired from its Elanco division
working as a paralegal.
Though the youngest of those raised down the way on Minnesota Street, Fancy exuded joy and
strength in raising her beloved son, and in their declining years, being chief caregiver for her
ailing parents, with the help of her siblings. She was deeply involved in her church Eastern Star,
and was a member of the Barnabas Ministry for more than 20 years. She served as a Steward
for many of those years, and also served in several other leadership roles at the church. She was
a Team Leader for more than 10 years, Campus Leader at the Cooper Road Campus for 1 year,
and served as the Administrative Assistant to the Ministry Director for the last 5 years until
her homegoing. Ask Fancy where she was going Sunday morning and she would tell you, “I’m
going to the church house.”
A spiritual person once told her brother that she was going to have trials in her life, but not to
worry, “She is a strong woman. She can handle this.” She did. She looked in the face of death
with trust in the Lord and said she didn’t want to live if there was no quality of life. With the
strength that was her, she refused to consider that cancer held any sway over her, and the good
Lord informed her that she could take rest from this old world on January 4 at 6:25 AM.
She was a cherished: mother to Brent Ash Jr., daughter to Charles B and Alene Crenshaw (who
have preceded her to glory), sister of Charles(Carol) Crenshaw, Charlene Easley and Loretta
(Tony) Shirley, niece of Noline Keller, aunt of Rachel Easley, first cousin of Sherron “Bootsie”
(Vincent) French, Rufus Keller, Mattie (Bruce) Sharp, Haroline (Ronnie) Phillips, Paul
Davenport, and Antoinette Campbell, cousin of Joey (Monique) French and the boys, cousin
to Jennifer (Russell) Hollis, Ashley Sharp, cousin/sister to Pam (Vince) Simms, Judy Frazier,
Bryant (Shirley) Frazier and all the Louisville family, loving companion Mr. Joe Rogers; friend
Brent Ash Sr., and lifetime bestfriend Michelle Walton. There are other family, friends and
loved ones too numerous to list here.
