Tonya Elaine Murray

Tonya E. Murray was the oldest child of the late Flem (Petie) Murray III and Karen Benberry-Wilkins, born in Indianapolis, IN on December 2, 1961. Tonya professed her life in Christ at Mt. Zion Baptist Church at an early age and in later years became a member of Phillips Temple CME Church. Tonya went to school 69 and graduated from Broad Ripple H.S. Tonya’s work history was endless, too many to name, but during her employment she loved working for a catering service and the Children’s Museum. In her spare time she enjoyed her favorite tv shows, traveling, cookouts and eating good food, collecting angels and reminiscing about fun times as a kid with her grade school friends. Tonya didn’t have any children of her own, but was a nurturing type of person, good at listening and giving the best advice to many young adults in her life who loved and respected her dearly, able to steer them past life’s difficulties in the right direction to better themselves. Tonya also had a passion for clothes just like her mother Karen, always dressed to kill from head to toe. After becoming ill Tonya was a pretty private person, not able to do too much, but kept in touch with friends and family by phone and Facebook most of all, reading her Bible and always asking, if you knew what the word Bible stood for? And she’d tell you it’s: (Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth) and what it takes to gain your wings and entrance into the Pearly Gates of Heaven.

Miss Tonya E. Murray departed this life to be with the Lord on July 2, 2021 at the age of 61 and is survived by her sister, Elizabeth K. Wilkins; brothers, Corey A. Murray, Jason K. Benberry; nieces, Paisley K. Benberry, Maxene N. Wilkins, Cori M. Murray, NinJa Clark; nephews, Eric G. Murray, Godson, Torrence Twyman Sr.; stepsister, Kim Peak and a host of other relatives and dear friends and their children including; Joyce and Tashawna Gooch.

Tonya was preceded in death by her mother Karen Benberry-Wilkins, father Flem Murray III, Aunt; Marcia Ferguson, Uncles; Walter D. Clark, Jerome Murray, Maternal Grandparents; Walter R. and Mary Frances Clark, Paternal Grandparents; Flem Murray Jr. and Eleanor Carter Murray and dear friend Felicia M. Petty
