Reverend Timothy Tyrone Shelton was born on July 18, 1953 in Chicago, Illinois to Ida and Richard Shelton. He was the youngest of six siblings. Timothy received Christ as well as his call to the Ministry at the age of twenty-five, while still residing in the hometown that he loved Chicago, Ill. He was set on entering law school when God called him into the ministry, and he never looked back. Tim earned a Master of Divinity from Garret Evangelical Seminary, Evanston, Illinois; as well as completing all Doctor of Ministry Course Work from Westminster Seminary in Escondido, CA. leaving only his manuscript to publish. Tim pastored multiple UMC churches across the state of Indiana. He retired from the UMC, after answering the call to plant The City of God a nondenominational church in Indiana. Tim worked tirelessly for the Lord, which was his greatest pleasure! He started Timothy Shelton Ministries, had two radio ministries, worked with a prison ministry, while pastoring in Muncie and he would later take the Word to inner city nursing homes in Indianapolis. Timothy loved the Lord and His Word! He took the Word to China, Africa and across the United States. Always seeking to bring others into the Kingdom of God with him, which was his greatest desire in life! Tim was smart with a quick wit and was known for his humor and signature laugh, which he did often as he was always laughing and sharing a joke. He loved learning and reading for knowledge as he would say.
He was a devoted and loving husband and father to his wife Kim of nearly 26 years, and daughter Hannah Rose Ruth. Pastor Shelton had already decided early on that if he ever had a daughter she would be named after Hannah from the old testament. The King James reads that Hannah rose from praying and that is how we got our Hannah Rose Ruth. He also loved his family of origin taking his nieces and nephews to the library and cultural points of interest in Chicago, Ill. Tim had a love for traveling domestically and abroad. Tim and Kim began their married life together in San Diego, CA and California has continued to be the family’s favorite place to get away. Tim also loved to drive and often shared the story of driving across country with his older brother Charles. He enjoyed being on the open road whether it was a short trip to Louisville, or Chicago or an even shorter trip to Muncie where he Pastored Trinity UMC for seven years. Reverend Timothy Shelton departed this life on February 1, 2022. Timothy was preceded in death by his Mother and Father, Richard and Ida Shelton, Sister, Kay Shelton, Brothers, Charles Shelton and John Shelton.
