Robert Wilson Obituary

Robert Wilson was born April 17, 1951, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Russell Wilson and Delores Golden (Duffy). Robert, was affectionately known by his family as “Bobby.”  He accepted Christ at an early age at Our Savior Lutheran Church in June of 1962.              

He attended Indianapolis Public School #36 and Shortridge High School. At Shortridge, Bobby excelled in athletics. He earned varsity letters in football and in basketball and received Indianapolis All-City recognition in basketball. He graduated from Shortridge in 1969.

After high school, he earned scholarships to play basketball. First, at Trinidad State from 1970-1971. He went on to play for NE Louisiana for two years, and then played for Iowa State University where he later graduated. He was drafted by both the Memphis Tams of the ABA and was a 3rd round selection of the Houston Rockets (41st pick) in the 1974 NBA draft. He worked many years in sales in both the insurance and automobile industries.

Robert loved sports, chess, and music of all kinds. He loved his mother, children, grandkids, and family, in general. He enjoyed many things, but his favorite of all was food!

Robert earned his wings to heaven on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at the age of 70. He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Alice Duffy, Lovely McGee: father, Russell Wilson; brother, Michael Wilson; his only aunt, Lucinda Carson and special cousins, Jo Carol Ray and Wesley Ray.        

Robert Wilson lives forever in the hearts and memories of his mother, Delores Golden; his children: Robyn Lynn Wilson, Tiffany Nicole Zachary (Gabe), Warren Wilson (Lenae); his grandchildren: (Dainondre, Cournell, Anika, Alaysha, Alana, Caleb, Iesha, Jasmine, Jacob, Lil Warren, and Tynaesha: nine great grandchildren: sisters, Deborah, Sanora, Cheryl, and Jana Wilson: brothers, Russell Jr, Russell A, and Andre Wilson; and special cousins: Thomas Gregory Ray, Joseph Edward Ray (Connie), Wendell Keith Ray (Falisa), Sonia Jean Ray, and Teresa Gail Ray (David); and many nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws and a host of other family members.
