Mattie Ruth (Keller) Sharp was born February 28, 1952 to the late Rufus Keller and Noline (Crenshaw) Keller in Indianapolis, In.; and was the oldest of her siblings. Mattie was quiet as a child but got talkative as she got older. She loved to have fun with her family especially her siblings and cousins. She went about God’s work by providing transportation for her friends and family members who needed to go for treatments. She would take them food or just visit and sitting with them. Anything they asked for she would try to get. Even as she worked part time at Macy’s many of her customers would ask for her because of her willingness to help them find whatever they were looking for. She would tell her little sister how she would pray in the morning before her day and ask the Lord who she could help that day and she said it was always someone who needed help. Even if it was just her pretty smile. Mattie attended public school #64 and graduated from Emmerich Manual High School class of ‘69. June 17, 1978, Mattie married Bruce Sharp – today would have been their 45th wedding anniversary. Together they had a daughter Ashley and stepson Raphael Pryor. Mattie was a wonderful aunt to her nieces and nephews and great nephews. She loved them all. Mattie had many friends from her childhood and from her work at the bank. Some are still apart of her life to this day. She worked for over 40 years in the Banking business starting at Indiana National Bank and on through the many name changes until it became Chase Bank where she retired. After retirement, Mattie enjoyed line dancing where the theme was “Keep it Moving”. She would often tell me (her little sister) to keep it moving. She also enjoyed going to the casino and traveling. Mattie gave her life to Christ at a young age here at New Garfield Baptist Church where she attended Sunday school and participated in the New Garfield’s Young Adult Christy Choir. She later joined Eastern Star and then New Life Worship Center where she worked as an Usher/ Greeter for several years. Recently she came back home to New Garfield Baptist Church where she attended until her sickness no longer allowed her. Mattie was proceeded in death by her mother Noline (Crenshaw) Keller, her dad, Rufus Keller Sr., her younger cousin VaNette (Fancy) Ash.
