Jessie O’Neill Hatcher was born on June 26, 1950, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was the son of Gilbert Lee Hatcher and Willa Mae Hatcher (Clark). At an early age, he confessed and accepted Christ as his personal savior at Bethesda Baptist Church. He was educated in the IPS School District and graduated from Harry E. Wood High School in 1967. He then attended the New York School of Visual Arts.
After returning home, he became employed at International Harvester. He would later join the US Army as a Radio Operator and obtained the rank of Sergeant. After an honorable discharge, he returned to International Harvester and was trained at IBEW 481 as an electrician.
In 1970, he married Betty Jo Averitte and to this union, his son and daughter were born. He also became a member of the Prince Hall Southern Cross Lodge #39, as a 3rd degree mason.
After retiring from Harvester, he became an entrepreneur and owned and operated his own business specializing in electrical wiring.
He is survived by his son, Jesse Lamont Hatcher and daughter, Kia Nichelle Rainey (Hatcher). His sister, Regina (Johnny) Irons. His brothers, Gilbert Lee Hatcher III and Wilbert Lee Hatcher. He was preceded in death by Herman C. Hatcher, Mary L. Dodson and Annie Carson. He also leaves behind a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as, his extended family of Ernest, Montrielle and Jerleanea Jones.
