James Arthur Leftridge Sr. was affectionately known as Jamie, JD, Big Jaymo and Mufasa. He was born April 14, 1970 to Mini Carol Leftridge and Charles Davis in Indianapolis, Indiana. James was educated in the Indianapolis Public School system and went on to later get his GED. After working manual labor jobs most of his life, he decided that he needed to rely on his intellect instead of his body. He attended and graduated from Ivy Tech College with an Associates in Business degree. He then started Enamele Soul to Soul BBQ and Cuisine with his wife and children with the intent of leaving a legacy for his family. Easter Sunday will forever be James’ spiritual birthday. He came to know and love the Lord no matter what was going on in his life. James worshipped in an unorthodox manner. He served others. He felt as though you didn’t have to bring people to the church rather bring the church to people. If you knew him at all, there was always a small word of wisdom, encouragement and maybe even chastisement. Yet through it all, it came with love and lots and lots of laughter. He often reminded his children that the only thing you have in this world is your name. What you do with it during this life is up to you, but make it worth something. James transitioned from his earthly home to his heavenly mansion on August 31, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. at the young age of 53. He was preceded in death by his loving maternal grandparents Arthur Lawrence and Clara Leftridge, father Charles Davis and fraternal grandmother Louise Hopkins. During a long-term relationship with Angela Scott, Dwayne Jamar and Denita Janae were born from this union. Later in life, James married his soul mate Tayell Thomas on July 29, 2000 and together they had three sons – James Arthur Jr., Jeremiah Andrew and Jeshua Amiel. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 23 years, Tayell (Thomas) Leftridge; children: Dwayne Scott (Kendra), Denita Scott, James (Jamie) Jr., Jeremiah and Jeshua Leftridge; grandchildren: Aamir, Amiya and Savannah Scott; mother Mini Carol Leftridge; brothers: Mark Leftridge(Domonique), Charles Davis and Sam Davis(Michelle); sisters: April Powell (Jesus), Michelle Davis Berry (Joe), Charlotte Robinson and Charity Davis; niece Amira PowellLara; uncles Arthur Lee Leftridge (Alesha) and William Leftridge; aunts Mattie Chandler and Angela Leftridge; close cousins Eric Chandler, Gena and Monique Leftridge; mother and father-in-law Wanda and Julius Thomas II; brother-in-law Julius Thomas III; a blended family of love siblings Thomas Powell (Mayada), John Sturdivant, Jacques Sturdivant, John Sampson III (Amber), Jamara Carter, Raechelle Powell, Lisa Sampson-Hill (Jeffrey), Kimisha Sampson-Richardson, Tamara Sampson-Ruffin (Thomas) and Kelly Sampson-Powell (Richard) and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and so many others that he loved.
