Hildra Trotter Obituary

Hildra McCann Trotter was born the 2nd of 4 children to Katherine McCann and Robert McCann on March 29, 1951.  She was centered in a foundation of faith at home and accepted the Lord at New Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church in Memphis, TN where she also married her sweetheart of 46 years William trotter. 

Hildra learned her critical skills from Melrose High school where she graduated Class of 1969. During these formative years she was also involved in Memphis Junior achievement.  Hildra followed in her Mother’s, Aunt Julia’s, and Brother’s footsteps attending Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN where she went on to excel and graduated summa cum Laude with a BS in Political Science.  Hildra was also a leader in the AKA sorority and always expressed the hidden merits of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.  Hildra completed her computer science course work at the University of Kentucky.

Hildra started her career at Kentucky farm Bureau in Louisville, Kentucky where she spearheaded the creation of an Information Support Center and trained staff in 120 counties.

Hildra then accepted a position at Dow AgroSciences where she excelled first as a Business Analyst for Global Systems and was Project leader for the following teams: Technology transfer Information Management, Knowledge Process and Information Steward where she brought documents within legal compliance for 95% of Dow Corporate employees worldwide.

Hildra led and mentored Young Entrepreneurs, a young group to help young men and women succeed in business.  She was part of Big Brothers and Big Sisters.  Hildra volunteered for Habitat for Humanity where she built three houses to provide much needed homes for families.  She volunteered for United Way.  She supported the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.  She was Counselor at the Julia Center for Battered Women and she contributed to Mission Possible, a ministry to feed the hungry.  She was an inspiration to all of us.

Hildra’s Mantra in life adopted from her mother was “ God Loves You, Never, Never Give Up’Hold on…

She passed away peacefully at home on June 1, 2020.

She was preceded in death by Katherine McCann (mother) Robert McCann (father), Julia Smith (aunt); Sean Bridges (nephew), and father-in-law Raymond.

She leaves a husband William Trotter; brother, Robert McCann (Doris); sister, Ann Bridges (Marty); sister, Deborah McCann; nephew, Robert McCann III (Nicole); niece, Tiffany Bridges Bankett (Terrance); great-nieces, Megan,Morgan,Marisa, and Mariah McCann, Navera Bridges, Imani Bankett; great-nephews, Torren Bankett, Uriah Bankett; brothers-in-law Wallace (Carolyn), Bobby (Ruth); sister-in-law, Sandra (Rob); mother-in-law, Mary.
