Benny Lee Mike Sr. was born on Saturday, April 19, 1941 to Leora Black and John Wesley Mykies in Grenada, Mississippi. He was their only child.
He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church.
He attended Casey Junior High School and graduated from Harry E. Wood High School.
Benny married Marie Tate August 25, 1963 and they were blessed with
three children, Valerie Denise, Michele Pamela and Benny Mike Jr.
Benny was an active member for several years at Greater St. Matthews. He served as a bible study teacher and Sunday school teacher.
Benny worked in the shipping and handling department of Allison General Motors. He retired at the age of 50 in 1995.
Benny was happiest playing tennis and riding his bike and spending time with his grand babies. They always remember him as their “Neddy”.
After retiring he spent many, many hours babysitting his three grandchildren and making sure they were involved in every extracurricular activity there was. He would always tell them to give him “ugars” which really meant sugar!
Despite a decline in health, he remained the caring and positive man that we all knew. Benny gracefully and peacefully departed this life on Saturday May 15, 2022 at the age of 81. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Valerie Denise and son Benny Mike, Jr.
Leaving here to cherish his memories are his wife, Marie Mike; daughter, Michele Mike; two granddaughters, Danielle “Shuggie Baby” and India “Nushugg” Murry; grandson, Jace “Boogie” Mike; one great-grandson, Mark “Shuggie Man” Huggins Jr., other family members and friends.
